Basic Safety

This is a full day, 10-hour course designed to educate the participant in identifying and following safe work procedures, as well as how to inspect and use safety equipment properly. It will describe safe work procedures for lifting heavy objects, working around electrical hazards and fighting fires.
- The meaning of job-site safety
- The role that safety plays in the construction crafts
- Characteristics of a competent person and a qualified person
- The appropriate safety precautions to take around common job-site hazards
- Demonstrate the use/care of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Properly don and remove personal protective equipment
- Follow safety procedures required for heavy lifting
- Safe behavior on/around ladders and scaffolds
- The importance of Hazard Communications (HazCom) and material safety data sheets (MSDSs)
- Fire prevention and firefighting techniques
- Safe work procedures to use around electrical hazards
